The U.S. Energy Information Administration on Aug. 29 released data showing total U.S. operable biofuels capacity expanded slightly in June, with small gains for both ethanol and renewable diesel. Feedstock consumption was up when compared to the previous month.Total operable biofuels capacity reached 25.057 billion gallons per year in June, up 43 MMgy when compared to the previous month, but down 165 MMgy when compared to June 2024.&nbsp;Fuel ethanol capacity was at 18.313 billion gallons per year in June, up 1 MMgy when compared to May and up 10 MMgy when compared to June of last year.&nbsp;Biodiesel capacity fell to 1.979 billion gallons per year in June, down 5 MMgy when compared to the previous month and down 43 MMgy when compared to June 2024.&nbsp;Capacity for renewable diesel and associated fuels, defined to include renewable heating oil, renewable jet fuel, renewable naphtha, renewable gasoline and other biofuels and biointermediates, expanded to 4.764 billion gallons per year in June, up 46 MMgy when compared to the previous month, but down 133 MMgy when compared to June of last year.&nbsp;U.S. biofuel producers consumed 28.666 billion pounds of feedstock in June, up 184 million pounds when compared to the previous month, but down 52 million pounds when compared to June 2024.&nbsp;Biofuel producers consumed 25.026 billion pounds of corn in June, up from 24.88 billion pounds in May, but down from 25.107 billion pounds in June of last year. Grains sorghum consumption was at 723 million pounds in June, up from 663 million pounds the previous month and 129 million pounds in June 2024.Soybean oil consumption was at 1.045 billion pounds in June, including 533 million pounds consumed at biodiesel plants and 511 million pounds consumed at renewable diesel plants. Soybean oil consumption was at 1.025 billion pounds in May, with 581 million pounds of that volume going to biodiesel and 444 million pounds going to renewable diesel, and at 1.27 billion pounds in June 2024, with 582 million pounds consumed for biodiesel and 689 million pounds consumed for renewable diesel.&nbsp;Corn oil consumption was at 345 million pounds in June, with 41 million pounds going to biodiesel production and 304 million pounds going to renewable diesel production. Corn oil consumption in June was down when compared to the 423 million pounds consumed the previous month. The EIA, however, did not break down corn oil consumption by producer type in May to avoid disclosure of individual company data. Corn oil consumption was at 403 million pounds in June 2024, with 80 million pounds going to biodiesel and 324 million pounds going to renewable diesel.Canola oil consumption was at 239 million pounds in June, up from 142 million pounds in May, but down from 386 million pounds in June of last year. The EIA withheld data on canola oil by producer type in June to avoid disclosure of individual company data.&nbsp;Biofuel producers also consumed 756 million pounds of tallow, 490 million pounds of yellow grease and 43 million pounds of white grease in June. Consumption was at 813 million pounds, 468 million pounds, and 60 million pounds, respectively, in May, and at 567 million pounds, 714 million pounds and 57 million pounds, respectively, in June 2024.&nbsp;The EIA withheld June data on the consumption of agriculture and forestry residues; other types of agriculture and forestry products; poultry fat; other types of waste oils, fats and greases; other vegetable oils, other recycled feeds and wastes, and other biofuel feedstocks not elsewhere specified or identified to avoid disclosure of individual company data.&nbsp;Additional data is available on the EIA <a href="https://www.eia.gov/biofuels/update/">website</a>.&nbsp;
