CVR pauses development of potential SAF projects pending regulatory, tax credit clarity

CVR Energy Inc. released fourth quarter financial results on Feb. 18, reporting reduced renewable diesel production. The company also said it is pausing development of SAF capacity pending clarity on government subsidies.
Neste Corp. on Feb. 13 released fourth quarter financial results, reporting that its renewables segment was impacted by both market and operational challenges during the three-month period. Sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) sales, however, were up.
Phillips 66 on Jan. 31 released fourth quarter financial results, reporting improved earnings for its renewable fuels segment on higher margins for its Rodeo complex in California and stronger international results.

EPA: 1.99 billion RINs generated in September

More than 1.99 billion RINs were generated under the RFS in September, up from 1.96 billion generated during the same month of last year. Total RIN generation for the first nine months of the year reached 18.58 billion
The government of Illinois on Sept. 30 announced Crysalis Biosciences Inc. will receive incentives under the state’s REV Illinois program to support its SAF project under development in Sauget, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri.
On Sept. 11, SK Energy, the largest refiner in South Korea and a subsidiary of SK Innovation, announced the completion of the nation’s first dedicated sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production line.
Neste has revised down its 2024 guidance for renewable products, citing substantially reduced diesel prices. The company said waste and residue feedstock prices have not decreased and renewable product market price premiums have remained weak.

Aemetis Inc., a renewable natural gas and renewable fuels company focused on low and negative carbon intensity products that replace fossil fuels, on Aug. 1 announced Q2 2024 revenues were up 48% when compared to the same period of 2023.
PBF Energy Inc. on Aug. 1 announced that its St. Bernard Renewables facility produced approximately 16,500 barrels per day of renewable diesel during the Q2 2024. Like many renewable diesel producers, the company is also considering a pivot to SAF.
