Nevada approves tax abatements for proposed renewable diesel, SAF project

Nevada Gov. Joe Lombardo and the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development on Jan. 25 approved $11.72 million in tax abatements for a 120 MMgy renewable diesel and SAF project under development by Edgewood Renewables LLC.

Total U.S. biofuel operatable production capacity was up slightly in November, with gains for ethanol, according to data released by the U.S. Energy Information Administration on Jan. 31. Total feedstock consumption was down slightly from October.

Legislation introduced in the New Jersey Senate on Jan. 29 aims to establish a low-carbon transportation fuel standard (LCTFS) that would reduce the average carbon intensity (CI) of gasoline and diesel by 10% below a 2019 baseline by 2030.

Gevo Inc. on Jan. 24 released a business update indicating that the company’s proposed SAF project in South Dakota, Net-Zero 1, remains in the due diligence phase of the U.S. Department of Energy’s loan guarantee program.

Topsoe on Jan. 23 announced it has signed a licensing and engineering agreement with Preem to provide its HydroFlex technology for renewable diesel and SAF production to Preem’s refinery conversion project in Lysekil, Sweden.

Sens. Jerry Moran, R-Kan.; Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn.; Joni Ernst, R-Iowa; Tammy Duckworth, D-Ill.; and Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, on Jan. 22 introduced the Farm to Fly Act, a bill that aims to accelerate the production and development of SAF.

The U.S. EPA published updated renewable identification number (RIN) data on Jan. 18, reporting that nearly 23.75 billion RINs were generated under the Renewable Fuel Standard in 2023, up from 21.35 billion RINs generated in 2022.

The Canada Infrastructure Bank on Jan. 17 announced it will provide Azure Sustainable Fuels Corp. with C$8.4 million to support a front-end engineering and design (FEED) study for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in Canada.
